Grants Will Support Inspirational Community Activities
Washington, DC, August 9, 2001 The Betaseron® Multiple Sclerosis Champions of CourageSM program recently awarded grants to individuals to help them achieve their goals and inspire others. The recipients include Michelena Boehmer of Longview, TX; Mark Davis of Denver, CO; Vance High of Charlottesville, VA and Anthony Zaremba of Brooklyn, NY.
"Activities our newest Champions will be taking on in 2001 include making blankets for the home-bound, starting a ski school for the visually impaired, organizing an MS Swimathon and creating community garden plots for individuals with disabilities," commented Eric Simons, motivational speaker with MS and chairman of the BCC board. "In addition to courageously battling their disease, these individuals are embarking on projects that will help increase understanding about MS and encourage and give confidence to others."
Funded by a grant from Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc., the Betaseron® Champions of Courage program recognizes the accomplishments of people with MS and provides grants to support their inspirational activities. Since the program was introduced the program in 1999, more than 20 women and men have received grants to underwrite motivating projects. To apply for a grant, individuals must be taking Betaseron®, describe their community service activities, and outline how they will use a grant to inspire others.
