Our Mission
Betaseron® Multiple Sclerosis Champions of Couragesm (BCC) is founded on the philosophy that quality health care, combined with a positive attitude and the support of others, can be empowering forces that enable people with MS to enhance their quality of life.
Launched in 1999, Betaseron® Champions of Courage is a grant-giving program that recognizes the extraordinary achievements of people with multiple sclerosis and provides financial grants to support their inspirational work in their respective communities. More than 25 women and men have already received grants to underwrite motivating activities ranging from patient programs and community events to physical challenges. Recipients are awarded up to $7,000 (grants are considered taxable income) to be used in reaching their stated goal.
To qualify for a grant, individuals must be taking Betaseron®, describe their community service work, and outline how they will use a grant to inspire others. Grant recipients are selected by a six-member advisory board comprised of neurologists, patients and other members of the MS community.
For more information call 202-363-3378 to speak with a representative who can answer your questions about the program.
Funded by a grant from Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the Betaseron® Champions of Courage program was inspired by Eric Simons of Boulder, Colorado. In February 1999, Eric climbed Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Argentine Andes, despite having MS.
