Pam Hensley
Dallas, TX
During her 20s, Pam Hensley scaled a 14,000-foot mountain and hiked frequently. After her diagnosis of MS in 1992 at age 39, this single mother of two boys sought new challenges.
Pam began bicycling soon after her diagnosis with MS and can still remember the first time she was able to ride 10 miles in a day. She found that, while walking was an effort, she could bike for many miles, letting her weaker leg rest while she pedaled with the stronger leg.
Soon, she was hooked, and began participating in MS 150 rides, the two-day bicycle tours covering 150 miles that benefit the National MS Society. Since the summer of 2000, when she received a Betaseron® Champions of Courage grant to defray some of her expenses, she has ridden in more than 20 MS 150 rides across the country to inspire and motivate others with this disease.
In 2001, Pam was selected as one of the 11,500 Americans to carry the Olympic Flame as it traveled across the country. She carried the torch through Dallas on December 12, 2001.
Everywhere Pam goes, she spreads a message of hope and inspiration to others fighting MS. She says, I am a fighter and Im fighting MS every way that I can. I will not let MS get me down. I plan on enjoying every day to the fullest.
Pam works in Information Systems at Texas Health Resources.
